PMI
acknowledged International Volunteer Day by recognizing and thanking
its volunteers for "working hard to improve the lives of others through
the project management profession." The International Volunteer Day for Economic and Social Development was adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 1985. Since then, governments, the UN system and civil society organizations have successfully joined volunteers around the world to celebrate the day on December 5.

- filling leadership positions within the organization: Vice Chairs, Deputies, Committee Members
- contributing articles to The Project Management Standard newsletter
- managing special projects
- working on designated project activities, Local Interest Group (LIG) meetings and professional development conferences
