Construction Extension to the PMBOK® Guide Third Edition Exposure Draft Available Online

The Construction Extension to the PMBOK® Guide Third Edition Exposure Draft is now available online. Construction projects represent an important project management sub-set. In fact, the practices and project management of construction projects were some of the foundations of the original 1987 document, The Project Management Body of Knowledge. As the profession has grown, it has been necessary to write practices that were applicable across industries. In doing so, some of the specificities of construction projects had to be edited out. They are now covered in the Construction Extension to the PMBOK® Guide.

The Construction Extension to the PMBOK® Guide Third Edition includes significant updates to the quality and contracting practices that have been evolving in the construction industry and incorporates the impacts of these changes throughout the guide.

This extension will appeal to a wide audience including: construction practitioners, taxpayers, regulatory agencies, local government groups, environmental groups, community groups, risk management specialists, civil engineers, architectural engineers, geotechnical experts and financial specialists.
The Construction Extension to the PMBOK® Guide. Third Edition will provide essential information to project managers in this critical industry. Please consider adding your review comments to the Exposure Draft of this important extension to the PMBOK® Guide. Third Edition.

The exposure draft is now available for comment. Please check pmi.org for additional information or contact Standards Program Administrator Elaine Lazar at elaine.lazar@pmi.org.

e-Builder Offers Free Webinar on Project Design and Delivery

Wednesday, 14 March 2007

Design professionals know that technology can facilitate the design and construction process and improve efficiencies. This course will shed light on Collaborative Project Management systems and how these solutions are helping firms become more efficient, competitive and profitable while reducing risk through the use of online, simple-to-use and collaborative tools.

The course presents an overview of collaborative technology and how it differs from basic document management systems, the major benefits as specifically related to design firms, and potential liability issues.

After completing this course, you will be able to:

  • Identify areas of improvement within existing business processes, and the technology and tools available to overcome limitations presented by non-collaborative processes on the design firm.
  • Distinguish the benefits of the different types of technology solutions available.
  • Understand the steps to improving efficiency and streamlining work processes within the firm.
  • Understand the implications of risk allocation, and whether risk should be allocated across the entire design and construction team.

This course is good for 1.5 AIA CE Learning Units.

The 2007 Symposium will feature an engaging program with dynamic keynote speakers, a variety of track sessions and ongoing opportunities to interact with poster presenters, vendors, and PMI local interest groups. In addition, you'll be able to network with other project management professionals.
